* Crazy Fact: One in five children in America will
grow up to develop skin cancer.
* Awesome Idea: Buy shade structures to protect them.
* Really Awesome Idea: Buy that shade from us!

PICTURE THIS...It is a beautiful sunny day in Gilbert. Families are shopping and enjoying the weather, children laughing and playing- life is grand. Children see glorious play equipment and it calls to them. They look up at mom and dad with hopeful faces and get the almighty nod of approval to go play. But as soon as they try to slide down the slide, instead of the exhilirating ride that they signed up for, they end up with burns on their cute little kid legs. Our nemesis the sun is at work again.....

Well the good people at Westcor are not going to stand for this sort of shenanigans at all. They are actually so committed to protecting the kids that they had a securtity guard measure the play equipment hourly just to make sure it was safe for the children! (True story..but that is a story for a different day)

(continued ) Killer Shade gets an anxious call from Westcor "We can't have installers here with the shoppers",they proclaim. "You can't attach to the buildings after the fact and you can't dig holes for posts because we already have power and water and data lines underground!" they say. Never fear- Killer Shade is here! We contacted SSC (Specialized Services Company) to excavate the ground using vacuum technology and protecting all our delicate friends, the underground lines. As far as not disturbing the shoppers, Killer Shade toiled at night to complete the project and even tweaked the design to shade the water park as well and still fit their budget. Not bad for a day's work...nevermind that it took us months....

Long story short- Westcor was great to work with (we love you Sheila and Ken) and all the little children are playing and splashing as we speak. The moral of the story is buy shade early and often. See you next month.

SHADE Foundation of America

"Shade for a Brighter Day"
SHADE Foundation of America is dedicated to preventing future cases of skin cancer by educating children to practice sun safe behaviors. Skin Cancer is 95% curable if it's detected and treated early. This is basically good news, as far as cancer goes. Unfortunately, skin cancer is also the fastest growing type of cancer, it will affect more than one million people this year (just in the United States) and kills one person each hour. The good news? With proper protection and precautions, most skin cancer is preventable. Basically, this is a cancer that no one should have. That's why SHADE expends major efforts to help quell these statistics.
Here at SHADE we do a lot to make sure that melanoma is mela-no-more! (pretty clever, huh?)
We work with all sorts of friends (and we are always open to making new ones!) to provide some excellent programs. We administer a national "Limit the Sun, Not the Fun!" poster contest that invites children across the country to send us their original artwork that demonstrates their knowledge of how to be safe in the sun. Last year over 12,500 kids from 43 states sent posters our way! We somehow convince people to raise awareness and run 26.2 miles in the New York, Boston, Chicago, and P.F. Chang's Arizona marathons.

We also work hard to put shade over school playgrounds. This is where we are much indebted to Killer Shade. Since 2002 SHADE has worked hard to provide over 150 schools and organizations with the means to erect their own shade covers. This year Killer Shade is generously helping us achieve our mission  by donating 12 shade structures to Phoenix area schools. These 12 shade structures will eventually provide protection for almost  80,000 children. That's giving a lot of kids a better chance of growing up skin cancer free! Thank you Killer Shade!!!

"GET TO KNOW US" EMPLOYEE CORNER featuring Mike G.
I am a proud daddy of 2 rambunctious wirehair  dachshunds named Malcolm and Angus-named after the mischievous brothers in AC/DC! I wonder how 2 dogs from the same litter can have 2 totally different personalities!

Malcolm is all about leisure and snacks (kinda like me). He is very affectionate and loveable, and spontaneously bursts into "howls of happiness" for no reason...well reasons only he understands. He HE is very vocal and i expect him to speak real soon. He loves to dig furiously before he claims his space to lie on the couch. He loves going for long walks and rides int he car.He is a gem and has greatly reduced the stress level in my life.
And now for something completely different-Angus the psyco (kinda like my girlfriend). He is a maniac (kinda like my girlfriend).  He struts around with his toy waiting for someone to throw itso he can chase it! He will walk up tp youwith his "treasured bone", drop it at yuor feet, or right on your toe, and bark until you throw it. Not sure where he picked up this habit-perhaps saw my girlfriend at one of our house parties...He is a brat but loveable in his own way. you just never know with this little guy what he is going to do next....(kinda like my girlfriend)!
